Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Educational Innovation and Philosophical Inquiries (ICEIPI 2021), Part 1

    Conference Date

Educational innovation has become an important issue on a global scale. The evolution of society and technology has provided new ways to improve future teaching achievements. It also allows us to seek different solutions to the problems that were difficult to solve in the past. On the other hand, our conference aims at unveiling and inspecting the philosophical inquiries usually hidden among the lines of logical debate. We hope that inter-disciplinary studies with a social scientific focus can all be traced back to the very source of their philosophical pursuits and eventually contribute to the creation of knowledge.

Analysis of Narrative Characteristics of the Novel "Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out" Using the Ideological Criticism Method

Ideological criticism in literature refers to the analysis and study of literary works from specific class or party perspectives, aiming to illustrate the ideological nature inherent in all literary creations. Ideological criticism in literature has existed since ancient Greek times and evolved into a systematic critical theory and doctrine in the nineteenth century. By the twentieth century, with the rise of Marxist literary criticism in the Western world, ideological criticism entered a new phase, giving rise to numerous critics and theorists, becoming a significant phenomenon in twentieth-century literary and cultural criticism. Since adopting Western models and concepts of literary criticism in the twentieth century, ideological criticism has been one of the most influential critical schools in domestic literary criticism practices in China. The extensive novel by the author Mo Yan, "Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out," can be thoroughly analyzed through the ideological criticism method, focusing on its content from the perspectives of characters, language, and plot.

Application of Gamification Teaching in Primary School

As IT develops rapidly and the nation attaches great importance to education, it is difficult for the original teaching methods to meet the requirements of current curriculum standards. Learning knowledge in a game-based way stimulates students' curiosity and desire to explore and enhances students' initiative in learning. It can effectively cultivate innovative ideas and deepen students' understanding of knowledge. The gamification strategy can not only make the classroom active but also improve the quality of teaching. However, there is no natural integration of gamification teaching in China. From the teachers' perspective, some school teachers are relatively old and do not know how to operate electronic equipment, and there is no professional training. In addition, integrating games and teaching naturally is also challenging from the perspective of software applications. This paper studies how to apply the gamification teaching method to the classroom based on the requirements of the new curriculum standard, analyzes the impact of the gamification teaching method on students, and the problems and solutions encountered in the application process.

Prediction of Autism Spectrum Disorder: Comparison and Tuning of Machine Learning Models

The early diagnosis in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is crucial for timely interventions to address the patients’ attentional and social challenges. The currently study aims to use machine learning algorithms to accurately predict ASD outcomes. Dataset from a Kaggle competition was used to perform the prediction analysis. Five supervised machine learning algorithms were employed: Logistic Regression (LR), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Machine Classifier (SVC), Random Forest (RF), and Decision Trees (DT). The models were fine-tuned using a range of possible hyperparameters and evaluated using ROC AUC scores. The best-performing model, Random Forest, achieved a training ROC AUC of 0.93. The model's performance in predicting the unseen test set resulted in a ROC AUC score of 0.8623. The outcome demonstrates the potentials of machine learning models in early prediction of ASD symptoms, which provides support for autistic individuals to enhance their quality of life and education.

Metacognition and Mentalization in Patients with Major Depressive Disorder

Social cognition is necessary to comprehend and interpret the behavioural intentions of oneself and others in social contexts. Despite an increasing understanding of social cognition deficits in mental illness, the relationship between Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and high-order social cognition deficits (i.e., mentalization and metacognition) remains under-investigated. This paper aims to provide a holistic review of the existing empirical evidence on mentalization and metacognition in patients with MDD and suggest areas in need of further research. While a close relationship between MDD and metacognition has been consistently reported, some disagreement was raised regarding the association between mentalization capacity and MDD. Besides, the direction of the association between MDD, mentalization and metacognition was also underlined by studies examining the outcomes of high-order social cognition therapies. Mentalization and metacognition were both found to be predictors or at least moderators, of MDD diagnosis and symptom severity. Future evidence from developmental and neuroimaging studies may provide valuable insights into the field of study by uncovering the varying degrees of the impact caused by social cognition deficits and their associated neural mechanisms.

Research on the Psychological Impacts of Violence Games and Solutions

Violent behavior is one of the influencing factors in the development of physical and mental health in individuals and has a great degree of influence on family and social harmony. This research was conducted in order to understand the influence of violent games and violent or criminal film and television on the psychology of adolescents and what they have done. The results were obtained through a literature search, an opinion survey, and a questionnaire. "In the rapidly developing Internet era, works containing violent and crime elements may lead some adolescents who are not well guided to the path of crime, but not attribute to society simply because evil things are bound to happen in society," according to the research findings of this paper. In addition to this, the crime should not be imputed to violent works, leading to a lack of certain education on the subject of violence in adulthood, so that they do not understand how to solve the relevant incidents when they encounter them. This paper suggest that the correct approach should be to first limit the time that minors are exposed to violent works to avoid creating shadows then to be properly guided by parents.

Research on the Impact of the Russia-Ukraine War on the United States

The article is set against the backdrop of today’s Russo-Ukrainian war and focuses on the multiple ways in which the continuity of the US as a country that commands but does not participate in the war can affect the country. Since the invasion, the US has led the way in providing Ukraine with military equipment and training, economic aid, near-total diplomatic support checks, intelligence used to deter Russian attacks, and threats of dire consequences if Russia uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Even before Russian troops crossed the border, the US and many of its allies were working to mobilize a potential diplomatic coalition against Moscow’s predatory and ambitious military by warning Russia of the range of potential sanctions it could incur, and strengthening Ukraine’s military forces. The article, sourced through a Google search and Google Scholar, is based on the American people’s perception of war and its economic and political impact on the United States after the World War Ⅰ.

Research on Proto-porcelain and How It Reflects the Changes in People’s Life

Proto-porcelain is a transition product between pottery and porcelain. It was born around 1700 BCE and left the stage of history around 400 AD. The southern part of China is one of the main places where proto-porcelain originated. As a functional object, it almost has the same dominance as pottery and bronze wares, being used for daily life or religion. However, it has distinct functions compared to other objects in the same era as well. For instance, as a kind of proto-porcelain, it has many differences with the real china which has higher sintering temperature and more complete glaze. This paper aims to find and clear up the characteristics, development, and era significance of proto-porcelain through literature research. According to analysis, it is found that proto-porcelain reflects the breakthrough of the technique of making porcelain, as well as the change of people’s aesthetic trends over the time.

The Influence of Chinese Parenting on Adolescent Pro-social Behavior

Since teenagers tend to behave treasonably in their adolescence, researchers are more likely to focus on their problem behaviors, which neglect their pro-social behavior. However, instead of solving and dealing with the problems they currently faced, it is much more significant to promote the development of pro-social behavior positive in their adolescence. This article reviews previous literature and organizes the influence of pro-social behavior on adolescents through parenting in various scales and concludes mediation and moderation. The main arguments of this paper are: 1) divided parenting into parenting style and parenting behavior and defined pro-social behavior; 2) compared different influences on pro-social behavior by scales of parenting behavior and parenting style in different dimensions; 3) discussed the mediation and moderation between parenting and pro-social behavior. This article finds that positive parenting can greatly benefit adolescents’ pro-social behavior, and also inspires researchers to focus more on factors, such as gender differences, single parents, and the system of the whole family, which can influence the development of pro-social behavior by parenting differently.

Connection Between Socioeconomic Status and Behavioral Well-being: A Closer Look at Eating and Sleep Disorders

This paper aims to investigate whether there is a correlation between individuals’ socioeconomic status and the prevalence and severity of eating and sleeping disorders. The current study attempts to explain this link from an evolutionary psychology perspective. This study discusses past literature that showed the prevalence and severity of eating and sleeping disorders positively or negatively correlating with factors like mating, social impacts and working, then predicts a positive correlation between a less commonly investigated factor, socioeconomic status, and the prevalence and severity of eating and sleeping disorders. The research proposal suggests that in a correlational study, 1000 participants will complete a questionnaire as a measurement of their socioeconomic status and the prevalence and severity of eating and/or sleeping disorders. A longitudinal study will follow up the data for 12 months. A multiple regression will be conducted. If results are found significant, implications of our findings could be applied both socially and clinically. If a non-significant result is found, the direction of future studies is suggested, including using multiple research methods for further investigation and attempting to establish a causal relationship between the chosen variables.

Analysis of the Reasons for the Youth Employment Difficulties in Today’s China

Nowadays, Chinese society has entered a stage of rapid development, and a large number of knowledge-building talents are needed to help China's future development. As the main force of China's future development, young people must have a rich knowledge background as well as good physical and mental health, so as to firmly guarantee the future of China. However, the fact is that, recently, a large number of graduates are unable to find a job or they take jobs that are low-paying, unstable, or less people-oriented. Over time, young people will be less positive at work, and their enthusiasm for work will be greatly reduced, which is not conducive to China's future development. In this case, this paper studies the employment dilemma of contemporary Chinese youth and the reasons behind it, drawing the conclusion that at present, Chinese youth are faced with a dual employment dilemma of the changing employment situation and changing employment preferences, which is caused by the increase in the number of outstanding graduates, the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the turnover wave of Generation Z, and the structural problems of youth employment.
