Review on the Impact of Parental Neglect on Mental Health among Adolescents

Adolescence is a golden stage of personal development, but mental health at this time is easily affected by external factors. Parents have a strong influence on adolescents' mental health as direct participants in their development. This study highlights the importance of parental involvement and attention in protecting and improving adolescent mental health during this critical stage of adolescent development. This article comprehensively studies and analyses the impact of parental neglect on adolescents' mental health. Parental neglect can be categorized into aspects such as emotional neglect and maternal neglect. By enumerating, analysing, and discussing scholars' related views on this topic, this paper finds that parental neglect has an impact on both the psychological and cognitive health development of adolescents. The impacts are mainly focused on insecurity, trust issues, and depression. Based on these conclusions, this paper finds that scholars' solutions focus on family companionship, school communication, and active psychological intervention.

Spatio-temporal Continuity and Personhood: An Analysis of the Diachronicity of Identity Through Two Criterions

The concept of and continuity of personal identity has long fascinated philosophers, psychologists, and individuals alike. This essay explores the continuity of the self from childhood onwards, examining how fundamental characteristics, memories, and experiences contribute to the persistence of personal identity through the dualist theory of the mind and body. In this view, a person is the same person as an earlier person if they have the same form as the earlier person and have continuity of matter with them. This essay will assert that human essence, through Olson’s animalism, remains the same and that the enduring connections formed through memories, values, and self-perception, however unreliable, may contribute to a sense of sameness, with the final determination of sameness belonging to the person whose personhood is put to question.

Causes and Motivations of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury in Everyday Life Scenarios

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a behavior in which a person purposefully injures himself or herself without suicidal intent. NSSI is most common in teens and young adults and has been linked to a number of mental diseases. The risk of future suicide is increased among people who participate in repetitive self-harming practices. Medication and psychotherapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, are treatment possibilities. The study conducted a literature review to better understand NSSI among adolescents aged 10 to 29 years. NSSI is motivated both inside and externally. Interventions of NSSI include immediate medical attention for persons suffering from mental illnesses and self-harm. Psychological therapies aim to improve coping skills and emotional regulation. Support and early intervention should be provided by parents, teachers, and healthcare experts.

Non-traditional Gender Role Parents on the LGBTQ+ Community in Chengdu, China: A Cultural and Psychosocial Examination

The impact of non-traditional gender role parenting on the LGBTQ+ community in the Chengdu area, especially in an urban environment like Chengdu, which is known for its openness and multiculturalism is worthy of academic attention. The study was conducted primarily through both quantitative and qualitative methods: online surveys and census data were used for quantitative analysis, while in-depth interviews and focus group discussions were used for qualitative analysis. This study proposes four main hypotheses: 1) there are more parents with non-traditional gender roles relative to traditional gender roles in Chengdu; 2) children from families with non-traditional gender roles are more likely to be open about their sexual minority identities; 3) non-traditional gender role family environments may be more encouraging of children's exploration and acceptance of gender perceptions of their sexual orientations; and 4) Chengdu's social and cultural environments, specifically perceptions related to gender roles, are associated with the flourishing of the LGBTQ+ community in the city. Preliminary results show that the relative activity and openness of the LGBTQ+ community in Chengdu is significantly higher than in other regions, which is related to the higher proportion of non-traditional gender role households in Chengdu. This study emphasizes that although sexual orientation is considered an intrinsic and inherent characteristic, family environment and socio-cultural factors also play an important role, especially in a more diverse and open urban context such as Chengdu. This provides a valuable perspective for further research on the cultural and social acceptance of sexual minorities within China.

The Impact of Teacher-student Relationships on Students' Mental Health

This paper explores the significant impact of teacher-student relationships on students' mental health, emphasizing the need for proactive measures in educational institutions. The intricate dynamics of these relationships influence students' self-concept, academic performance, and emotional well-being. Various challenges faced by students' mental health, including stress, depression, perfectionism, and the influence of social media, are discussed. The paper categorizes teacher-student relationships into oppositional, dependent, laissez-faire, and democratic patterns, highlighting the importance of fostering democratic relationships characterized by mutual respect and collaboration. Positive teacher-student relationships enhance students' self-concept, academic adaptability, and emotional engagement, while negative relationships can lead to emotional distress. The paper suggests fostering open communication, training teachers in empathic communication and emotional intelligence, and integrating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs. It emphasizes creating a sense of belonging in the classroom and investing in accessible mental health resources. These strategies aim to create an environment where teacher-student relationships contribute to student's holistic development and well-being.

A Review of Studies on L2 Motivational Self System

The Second Language Motivational Self-System (L2 MSS) is the motivation model elaborated in this article. The aim of this article is to review the model, present a summary of research, that empirically analyses the model and its key features, and suggest future research options. In the article, the issue with the model will be addressed one by one. Then, theoretical descriptions of the model will be presented, followed by its empirical investigations and criticism. Theoretical elaboration of the model is based on Gardner’s model of motivation, Markus and Nurius’ ‘possible selves’ and Higgins’ self-discrepancy theory. Numerous empirical studies examining the model in various contexts around the world found that the ideal L2 self, which associates integrativeness motives and the internalised instrumental, is the strongest component of the model, and the ought-to L2 self, which is relatively less internalised or motivating. The model has been modified to take learning experiences into account. However, unbalanced attention is given to the L2MSS’s constituent parts.

Study on the Influence of the Anti-addiction System on Adolescent Media Use Habits

In this era, the number of teenagers still accounts for a large part of the population, and the development of the country is inseparable from the development and future of adolescents. The research topic is a study on the influence of the anti-addiction system on adolescent media use habits. The thesis will revolve around three questions, namely: 1. Why are teenagers so obsessed with the web? 2. Does the adolescent have the ability to judge whether the media is good or bad? 3. The effect of the anti-addiction system on adolescent media use behavior; The author will analyze the reasons behind the investigation and the corresponding countermeasures based on existing literature. The general conclusion is that the use of electronic devices has a great impact on most adolescents without self-control, and the anti-addiction system ensures the uniformity of the use time of adolescents to reduce the degree of obsession with electronic devices and better helps minors return to normal life and enter life, but there is no lack of using parental identity for authentication and continuing to be addicted to video games, which does not allow students to end the status quo of "delaying their studies because of games."

The Causes and Effects of Fear of Missing Out on Social Media

As the frequency of social media use increases, psychological problems such as social media misuse anxiety may arise. Perhaps many online users have experienced or are experiencing Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), so it is particularly important to explore the communication theories that underlie the operation of FoMO and its consequences from the users' perspective. After a general introduction to the origins of the term FoMO, Goffman's Theatre Theory, Self-Presentation Theory and Sociology's Social Comparison Theory are used to explain the reasons why mass social media users experience FoMO. Overall, this paper finds that social media users are interested in positive self-presentation on Internet platforms, people are always actively or passively exposed to massive amounts of information within limited energy and time, and Internet users are socially upgraded by the good life deliberately created by others in the social network, all of which may be facilitated to some extent by FoMO. At the same time, this paper also popularises the behaviour of social media fatigue caused by FoMO to show that FoMO is a staged process with antecedents and consequences.

The Influence of the Parenting Style on Children's Social Ability and Developmental Ability

This paper investigates the significance of parenting styles in influencing children's development, social skills, and academic performance. Drawing from prominent studies, particularly the pioneering work of Dr. Diana Baumrind, four parenting styles (PSs) are examined: authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful. The research underscores the authoritative style as the most balanced and effective approach, characterized by emotional support, clear rules, and reasonable expectations. Children raised under authoritative PS can have higher self-esteem, improved social competence, and better emotional regulation skills, contributing to enhanced overall well-being and a higher quality of life. The paper also delves into research exploring the impact of social skills on academic performance. Prosocial behavior and positive social interactions are found to be significant predictors of better grades and competencies, while peer problems and negative social experiences can hinder academic achievement. Ultimately, this research highlights the pivotal role of PSs in shaping children's lives. By recognizing the importance of authoritative parenting and promoting positive social interactions, caregivers can cultivate an environment that nurtures children's well-being, social skills, and academic success, ultimately empowering them to thrive and reach their full potential.

Oral Materialization and Ethical Governance of Science and Technology in Artificial Intelligence

Contemporary people live in a reality full of intelligent technology construction, and many practical activities are regulated by technology. The chat content generation pre-training program artificial intelligence developed by the Open Artificial Intelligence Research Center (OpenAI) based on large model data training has aroused wide concern because of its generation and learning ability. It is necessary to admit that the current domestic media publicity seems to focus more on the convenience that big data technology may bring to human society. But not much about its own limitations. In the few discussions on the negative effects of big data technology, more concerns are raised about the ethical risks that may be caused by the abuse of relevant technology, such as the threat of "data greed" to personal privacy, and the decision-making errors that may be caused by the superstition of business decision-makers and government heads about "digital dictatorship", etc. From the perspective of philosophy of information technology and philosophy of cognitive science, this paper reviews the gains and losses of big data technology itself in terms of philosophical thought premise and path strategy. Starting from the theory of "moral materialization", this paper analyzes the ethical value load and risk of artificial intelligence from the perspectives of moral subject status, value position presupposition, operation intervention and operation result effect. And from the moral materialization theory of "top-down" approach and "bottom-up" approach to the ethical governance of modern scientific and technological intelligent artifacts.
